Description

The Daiwa Wilderness Fly Rod 11’3″ #7/8 is the ultimate extension of the Wilderness series, purpose-designed for the demands of dedicated “Loch Style” and large stillwater/reservoir angling. The significant 11-foot 3-inch length is crucial for maintaining contact with long lines, controlling multiple-fly casts, and mastering modern stillwater tactics. The dual #7/8 line rating gives the rod excellent versatility.

Product Details and Uses

This rod is specifically engineered for the unique challenges of traditional loch-style fly fishing, often performed from a drifting boat, but is also highly effective from the bank on huge waters.

  • Loch Style Angling: The extended length is vital for dibbling a top dropper fly across the surface and for “snaking” the line during the retrieve to impart life into the flies. It provides superior line lift, making it easier to pick up a long line or a sinking line from the water for the next cast.
  • Versatile Power: The #7/8 dual-line rating means it can comfortably handle a standard #7 floating line for delicate presentations or be powered up with a full #8 intermediate or fast-sinking line to fish deeper.
  • Adaptable Handle: A key feature of this model is that it often includes two lengths of detachable fighting butts, allowing the angler to customize the handle length for single-hand overhead casting or a slightly longer, two-handed grip for distance casting and playing large fish.
