The Daiwa Wilderness Fly Rod 9’6″ #7 is designed as a powerful, general-purpose stillwater and reservoir rod. It is built on the robust and smooth-casting platform of the Wilderness series, with the extended 9’6″ length offering superior line control and distance casting capabilities compared to a standard 9′ rod. The 4-piece design maintains the excellent blend of portability and casting performance.

This rod excels at fishing on larger bodies of water where longer casts are frequently required, or when using sinking lines to explore deeper parts of the water column. The #7 line rating gives it the backbone to handle weighted lines, cast heavy or wind-resistant flies (such as big lures or multiple nymphs), and confidently fight larger, stronger fish commonly found in stillwater and reservoir settings.

Product Details and Uses

The extra 6 inches of length is a significant asset for lifting long lengths of sinking line from the water, mending line at distance, and controlling flies when fishing “washing line” or multiple-fly setups. Its strong, medium-fast action is highly versatile, providing both the finesse for dry fly work when needed and the necessary power for fishing sinking lines and tackling heavy-duty fishing scenarios. This rod is often considered a perfect “main” rod for the serious stillwater trout angler.
