Description

Kamasan B940 Aberdeen Hooks

The Kamasan B940 Aberdeen hook is a classic and iconic hook pattern, revered by anglers for its versatility, strength, and simplicity. While it’s a staple in coarse fishing, it is also a very popular and dependable choice for light to medium saltwater fishing, particularly for presenting small baits to a variety of species.

Key Features and Construction

  • Hook Pattern: The B940 is an “Aberdeen” pattern hook. This pattern is defined by its long shank, rounded bend, and fine wire. This specific design has several key advantages:
    1. Long Shank: The long shank makes it easy to bait with long, thin baits like lugworm or ragworm. It also makes it much easier to unhook the fish, as you have more to grab onto, especially with species that have small mouths.
    2. Fine Wire: The fine wire construction allows for excellent bait presentation and can be an advantage when fishing for wary fish. It also aids in penetration, as the hook can go in with less pressure.
    3. Rounded Bend: The rounded bend provides a good hook-up rate and helps to hold the fish securely.
  • Finish: The hook is finished in a durable anti-corrosive bronze or black nickel coating. This provides a good level of protection against the elements and gives the hook a classic, understated look.
  • Wire Gauge: The B940 is made from a fine, yet strong, carbon steel wire. While not designed for extreme power, the wire is strong enough for its intended use and is highly resistant to bending out of shape. The fine wire also ensures that the hook is very lightweight, which can be important for sensitive presentations.
  • Forged: Kamasan’s hooks are often forged, which means the wire is compressed during the manufacturing process to add extra strength without increasing the weight.
