Product Details and Uses

Shimano Tyrnos B Stand Up Spiral Rods

If you are hunting the ocean’s “apex predators” and prefer the adrenaline of a stand-up battle over a fighting chair, the Shimano Tyrnos B Stand Up Spiral is the pinnacle of offshore engineering. Here at Gerry’s Fishing, we recognize this as a specialized “beast-tamer.” By combining Shimano’s most advanced carbon treatments with a unique spiral guide layout, they have created a rod that eliminates the physical strain of rod-twist, allowing you to focus 100% of your energy on the fish.

Product Details & Uses

The Tyrnos B is built using Full Carbon construction integrated with HPC (High Pressure Carbon) and Biofibre reinforcement. This process creates a blank that is incredibly dense and devoid of weak spots, resulting in a rod that is remarkably lightweight but possesses terrifying power reserves. The addition of Twist Control ensures that the blank stays true under load, preventing the “spine” of the rod from shifting during high-pressure exchanges.

The standout feature is the Spiral Guide Placement (also known as “Acid Wrap”). On a standard overhead rod, the line wants to pull the rod over, forcing it to twist in your hands. By spiraling the Fuji HB guides around the blank so the tip guides face downward, Shimano has moved the center of gravity to the bottom of the rod. This makes the rod naturally stable, providing a smoother “fish-playing” action and massive lifting power for Tuna, Marlin, and giant Sharks.

Prime Locations & Uses:

  • Big Game Stand-Up: The definitive choice for targeting Bluefin Tuna, large Sharks (Mako/Porbeagle), and Marlin using a harness and fighting belt.

  • Deep-Sea Giants: Ideal for winching massive Common Skate or “Record-Class” Halibut where maximum torque is required.

  • Modern Braid Techniques: Specifically engineered for the non-stretch nature of heavy braided lines, featuring Fuji SiN II linings to handle extreme heat and friction.

  • Custom Configuration: Available in both Straight Butt for standard height gunwales and Bent Butt for maximum leverage and specialized trolling setups.

Gerry’s Pro Tip

“The Tyrnos Spiral is a game-changer for your back and wrists. When you’re locked into a 200lb fish, a standard rod is constantly trying to ‘roll’ in your hands—this spiral layout stops that completely. My advice? Pair this with a Shimano Tyrnos 2-Speed or a Talica reel. The ‘Twist Control’ technology is subtle until you’re at max drag; that’s when you realize the rod isn’t vibrating or ‘shimmering’—it’s just pure, direct power. If you’re serious about stand-up big game, this is the most technical tool in the shed.”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Why choose the Spiral (Acid Wrap) guide layout?

A: Standard guides on top of the rod create “torque,” making the rod want to flip over when a fish pulls down. By spiraling the guides to the bottom, the rod becomes “self-stabilizing.” This reduces wrist fatigue and prevents the line from touching the blank during a deep bend.

Q: What is the difference between the Straight and Bent Butt?

A: A Straight Butt is the traditional choice for general stand-up fishing and versatility. A Bent Butt lowers the reel’s center of gravity and changes the leverage point, making it easier to “pump” massive fish while the rod is in a gimbal belt, and it’s often preferred for trolling.

Q: Is HPC (High Pressure Carbon) better than standard carbon?

A: Yes. During the curing process, pressure is applied to the blank, which distributes the resin evenly through the carbon fibers. This results in a rod that is up to 40% stronger and much more resistant to “crushing” forces than traditional blanks.

Q: Can I use this rod with monofilament?

A: While it is “braid optimized” due to the Fuji SiN II guides’ ability to handle heat, it works perfectly with monofilament. The spiral guides ensure that even thicker mono won’t rub against the blank under a heavy load.
