Fixed Grip Wires: The defining characteristic is the four fixed wire grips, which are non-collapsible (unlike a Breakout Sinker). They are bent outwards and anchor firmly into the seabed.
Double D (DD) Designation: This refers to the strength of the grip wires. The wires are made from a relatively thick $1.4 mm$ marine grade stainless steel wire that is exceptionally strong and resists bending.
Maximum Grip: The design is intended to offer the maximum amount of grip possible, which is essential for holding a rig in position in the fiercest tides and fast lateral currents.
Best Suited For:
- Uptide Fishing: It’s a “go-to” sinker for fishing from a boat (uptiding) where you need to anchor your rig firmly in place against the tide.
- Piers and Deep Water Beaches: Venues with strong water movement where other leads would be instantly swept away.
Retrieval: Due to the strength of the fixed wires, the sinker must be pulled directly out of its anchorage on retrieval. For shore casting, this type of lead is generally not recommended as it is difficult to retrieve and increases the risk of snagging and losing the tackle.
