The 3000 size is the ultimate all-rounder for UK coastal and light-estuary fishing:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a backing for my braid?

No. The Penn Pursuit V features a rubber gasket on the spool (Superline Spool), which prevents braid from spinning around the arbor. You can spool up with 100% braid.

Is this reel suitable for boat fishing?

For light “inshore” boat work—such as jigging for mackerel or light reef fishing for bream—the 3000 is great. However, for heavy wrecking or deep-water bait fishing, we recommend the larger 6000 or 8000 sizes.

What is the difference between the Pursuit IV and the Pursuit V?
