The Sakura Ryokan SW Casting 6’4″ is the refined, “all-rounder” of the Ryokan slow jigging series. While its heavier counterpart (the 300g model) is for extreme depths, this 90–200g version is designed for the technical angler working mid-depth reefs, sandbanks, and wrecks. At 6’4″ (approx. 1.93m), the single-piece IM30T carbon blank offers a more nuanced, sensitive action that is perfect for presenting jigs with surgical precision.
This rod is built to maximize the “flutter” time of your lure. The high-modulus carbon is tuned to provide a rhythmic “bounce,” lifting the jig and allowing it to fall horizontally in a controlled, enticing manner. It is a casting (overhead) model, designed to be paired with a multiplier or baitcasting reel for optimal torque and direct contact with the lure.

Optimized Elasticity: The IM30T blank is the heart of this rod. It is designed to “load” under the weight of a 150g jig and then snap back with enough speed to flip the jig onto its side. This 90-200g model offers a slightly softer tip than the 300g version, providing better feedback when using lighter lures.
Seamless Energy Transfer: Being a single-piece rod, there are no flat spots in the action. When a fish dives under the boat, the rod bends in a perfect arc, distributing pressure evenly and preventing hook pulls or line breaks.
Fuji K-Frame Guides: Specifically chosen to handle the slack-line situations inherent in slow jigging. The frames prevent the braid from looping over the guides during the “drop” phase, ensuring your line always runs smooth.
Trigger Reel Seat: The casting configuration allows for “thumb-on-spool” control, which is essential for feeling for bites as the jig descends and for instant engagement when a fish strikes.
Mid-Depth Wreck & Reef Fishing: Perfect for depths between 30m and 80m. The 200g upper limit is the “sweet spot” for most coastal slow jigging scenarios where tide and depth are moderate.
Species Targeting: Highly effective for Pollock, Bass, Cod, and Gurnard. The sensitive blank allows you to feel the difference between a curious “bump” and a committed strike.
The “Slow Pitch” Technique: Use short, rhythmic turns of the reel handle to load the rod. The rod tip will lift the jig; as the tip recovers, the jig will “stall” and flutter. Most takes occur during this weightless moment.
Inchiku & Kabura Fishing: While optimized for slow jigs, this rod’s progressive action is excellent for fishing “Tai Rubber” or Inchiku lures, where a steady retrieve and a forgiving tip are required to hook fish that “nibble” at the lure.
“The 6’4” 90-200g is the most versatile slow jig rod in the Sakura stable. It’s light enough to be used all day without tiring your arm out, but has enough ‘grunt’ in the lower third to stop a decent fish. I recommend using a PE #1.5 to #2.5 braid with this rod. If the tide is light, try a 120g jig—the way this rod makes a lighter jig ‘dance’ is something you have to see to believe
