Design Classic: It’s a traditional, tough, and slender boom design, which is a staple in both shore and boat fishing rigs.
Anti-Tangle Function: Its primary purpose is to hold the hook snood (hook length) away from the main rig body line. The boom rotates freely, which is crucial for reducing line twists and tangles, especially when fishing in tidal currents or when drifting from a boat.
Snood Presentation: By extending the snood away from the mainline, it ensures the bait is presented clearly and can waft naturally with the tide, maximizing its attractiveness to fish.
Rig Construction:
- Shore Fishing: Commonly used to make rigs for species like Whiting and Flatfish (Plaice, Dabs) where a light line and tangle-free presentation are key.
- Boat Fishing: Excellent for light boat rigs or “down boat rigs,” particularly when drifting with more than one hook length, where it helps keep hooks separated.
Fixing to Line: It can be secured onto the main rig body line in a couple of ways:
