The Sakuma Pro Series 545 Manta Extra hooks are a heavy-duty, premium hook designed for the most demanding sea fishing applications. As the name suggests, they are an “extra” strong version of the popular Manta series, built to handle the biggest fish and the toughest conditions. They are a go-to choice for anglers targeting large specimen fish with big baits.

Key Features and Construction

Hook Pattern: The Sakuma 545 Manta Extra is a “wide gape” hook. The extra wide gap between the hook point and the shank is a key design feature that provides two major benefits:
1. Bulky Baits: It is specifically designed to accommodate and effectively present very large, voluminous baits such as whole crab, large sections of squid, big mackerel fillets, or a cocktail of different baits. The wide gape ensures the hook point remains exposed for a solid hook-up.
2. Hook-Up Rate: The wide gape provides a larger target area for the fish’s mouth, which can significantly improve the hook-up rate, especially when a fish engulfs the bait.
Finish: The hook is finished in a durable anti-corrosive black nickel coating. This finish not only helps to protect the hook from the corrosive effects of saltwater but also provides a non-reflective, subtle appearance that can be an advantage when fishing for wary species.
Wire Gauge: The 545 Manta Extra is made from an exceptionally strong, forged, and heavy gauge wire. This is the main difference between this hook and the standard 540 Manta. The heavy wire provides uncompromising strength and is highly resistant to bending or straightening, even under the immense pressure of a powerful fish. The forging process compresses the metal, adding to its strength. The needle point remains super sharp for easy penetration.
Eye: The hook features a neat, straight eye, which makes it easy to tie on with a variety of knots, including popular sea fishing knots like the snood knot.
Micro Barb: The hook has a micro barb. This style of barb is small but effective, providing enough hold to keep a fish on while minimizing damage to the fish and making it easier to unhook
