We were getting sick of buying in poor Tope traces which were ok for handling fish up to 20lb but anything bigger they are a waste of time. We decided to make our own in store which we have tested on tope up to 56lb. We havent been able to catch anything bigger yet. Our modern Tope rigs are designed from advice from one of the UK’s top boat anglers – Dave Barham (Boat fishing Monthly Magazine editor) and use the following components…

6ft of 200lb mono

695lb test power swivel

10/0 quality circle hook (crush down barb with pliers if preferred)

we advise to pre stretch the trace before use, doing this reduces the coil in the mono which will remain flatter on the sea bed
